Scientific Editors Network Welcomes You

The mission of the Scientific Editors Network (ScENe) is to provide an inclusive, welcoming forum for scientific editors to share skills, knowledge, and resources; discuss strategies to overcome challenges; and improve science communication.

Our vision is to be a diverse community that advances scientific editing as a career and strengthens scientific research to benefit society.

ScENe is a group of professional scientific editors who

  • Work in university, research center, government, company, or freelance settings in the United States

  • Perform substantive scientific editing of grant proposals and research articles

  • Help scientists (e.g., biologists, chemists, physicists), engineers, and clinicians communicate effectively about their research

  • Share knowledge via monthly conference calls, a listserv, and this website (see a sampling of past ScENe calls)

For more information, see our poster

Substantive scientific editing entails

  • Strengthening the scientific arguments

  • Highlighting the significance of the work

  • Ensuring that funding agency or journal expectations are met

  • Improving grammar, clarity, and flow of the writing
